Every few decades, a few people come together and change the world as we see it. Symbiosis International (Deemed University) has several times changed the national scope of what a private education means. Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, was one of the first liberal arts colleges established in India, and since then, it has come a long way forward, like hosting India’s premier International Big History Conference, in March 2018.
As a student, I feel a true education entails the opportunity to explore all of mankind’s knowledge created thus far, and then constructing a unique path toward your unique destination. SSLA was founded on that exact premise.
Being the President of the student body is a surreal experience, and the best part about it is that I get to add on to SSLA’s efforts to de-mechanize the education system, which currently is composed of rigid curricula, and does not take into consideration the fact that all beings are unique, and they deserve to choose what they want to learn. Through an evolving core curriculum, hundreds of electives, and scores of Majors and Minors – SSLA harbours a dynamic student community. As you walk down the corridors of SSLA, you hear people talk – from classical Plato to contemporary Dewey, from the renaissance to post-modernism, from Beethoven to Kendrick Lamar – and so much more. The classroom space is all-the-more enticing, where a student can begin an inter-disciplinary inquiry into whatever subject they want – be it Psychology, Media, Sociology, Philosophy, Film, Math, Economics, or the study of Peace, and Conflict, and Gender, or something completely different!
SSLA is a place where new bounds are set and as students, we get to be in the epicentre of this change. As President of the Student Body, I invite every student who cares about learning and the agency of their free will, to apply.
